HEAT STROKE

I am buried in light
the brain becomes
a cracked, hard sponge
and the blood becomes
a paste crawling through
fried nerves, the thud of heart
like the thud of a shoe
kicking at a door
none answer

Nothing doing nothing
sapped of word,
leached of thought
lowered into the earth
fall into sleep. At my ear
a wet, withdrawing sound
a sky opening,
my arid land's
prayer for rain
