DREAM'S FABRIC

In the quiet of the sunken armchair
Sound eaten by softness
I fall unto dream

Dream my boot is full of magpie
Undo the wet lace and they lift off
Carry the boot till it is tiny in the sky

Dream my coat is full of white moth
Open the buttons, they are the lining
Slip my arms through and feel their flutter

Dream the window landscape
All covered in soot and snow
Writhing garden of magpie and moth

I snap awake
In the garden
An old tree fallen

THIS BED

This bed
Where we do not sleep
This bed
Where we do not move
This bed
I roll back my eyes
Stare at the roof of my head

This bed
Where I dream of a dog
Eating a dog eating a dog
Until the chain of dogs
Shackles the earth
This bed
I dream my birth

This bed
Where we do not sleep
This bed
we call home
This bed that even the flies
left alone

This bed
a harness for the soul
This bed
A field of coal
This bed sets on fire
your nose runs
Your croco tears fall

A portrait of our body
Sweat piss ash shit love
You haunt me you stain
Sheet ghost
You haunt me old stain
Old host

Worse than the weight
Worse than the noise
The pitiful feeling what
I take I destroy

This bed
I descend

Endless expanse
A mountain of pillow
No word comes
No thought grows
Just that cold sweat
Trickling avalanche
Coming down and froze

UNSAID

He curled his lips around the words
holding them up like hateful things
not speaking: mouthing,
mumbling in his mind
they cling to the throat
like shy children

Gripped and throttled
Starved of sound-being
The sentence suffocated,
Tumbled back down his throat,
Poor words they do not know
Their own meaning

Teeth like torn paper
He sucks on the rind
Of his lashing root;
There is the fleshing out:
What you think you hold in
Is written on you.

The children crawl up
Climb into your head.
They grow and grab;
Pull you this way and that,
They chant as you split
On repeat, the damned:
‘Unsaid unsaid unsaid’

QUIET THEY NEST

Bed in dark
Unbend in dark
Exeunt her haggard nest
It’s the part she hates best
When the dawn do decide
To raise its bleary head
It falls back down
Against the pillow dead
