NARCISSUS GROWS NUMB

He looked into the lake

Made his mouth a big fat O

The moon in his eye like a flipped coin

His hair black as leeches

And the sound of ivy growing behind

Like someone fitting on a wet boot on

Water sucking a straw at his ear

With the dawn came the winds

His jaw was the first thing to break
